Matt Kalish is an off-road motorsport photographer and public relations professional with a master’s degree in engineering and an affinity for dirt. He will do anything for stage-side access and even more for a great shot. Not afraid of staying clean, Matt will often put himself into the action of racing. Dirt, mud, sand, and snow are just an overcoat to him.
Matt is known for his speed and his simple, yet focused style. If it doesn’t contribute to a completely informed account of the events at a race he doesn’t include it in his immediate releases. He credits his engineering background for this ability to quickly identify and pull out relevant moments from a scene.
Matt bought his first SLR body during his freshman year at Syracuse University and began shooting daily life on campus. Eager to learn more, he took advantage of his schooling at SU and enrolled in photojournalism classes at the S.I. Newhouse School. There he refined his technique and learned how shoot on a schedule. Matt eventually grew tired of shooting university life so he elected to combine his two favorite hobbies, photography and racing cars.
He worked freelance, covering Rally America, NASCAR, and Formula 1, before getting picked up full-time by Global Rallycross in 2013. There Matt gained a complete understanding of what it meant to be a professional. He networked, stuck to a schedule, and produced high quality content.
After his contract with GRC concluded, Matt decided to work for the teams of the series. He partnered with Rhys Millen Racing along with several of the smaller GRC Lites teams. But decided that he wanted to branch out from merely taking photographs. He became active on social media and started writing articles for several online publications.
In 2015, Matt began a six month partnership with Rally America. He managed the series social media channels while also preparing articles, stories, and general series updates.
Currently, Matt is working freelance, covering events that he wants to see. Matt can be found with a camera in auto show press booths, on muddy stage roads, and track-side nearly anywhere in the country.
